Glencore Concentrate Unloading
TESC was engaged by Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations to supply services, labour, equipment, and materials for the construction of the Concentrate Unloading facility at the Sudbury INO Smelter, located in Falconbridge (Sudbury), Ontario.
The main activities for this contract were:
- Mobilization and demobilization
- Safety orientation and isolation of the work area
- Health, safety, and environmental management
- Remove, handle, transport, and dispose of all identified items for removal
- Preparation of shop drawings for items such as structural steel and fabricated equipment
- Supply, fabrication, and erection of structural steel
- Detail, supply, fabricate and install architectural items
- Erection and installation of baghouse structure and components
- Supply, fabrication, and erection of ducting
- Supply and installation of scaffolding
- Installation and pre-operational testing of all equipment
- Supply of piping components, including valves, piping spools and instrumentation
- Installation and pre-operational testing of piping systems including valves and instrumentation
- Installation and pre-operational documentation and testing of the electrical works
- Receiving, unloading, protecting, and handling of Free Issue equipment and materials and equipment and materials
- Assisting with commissioning and start-up
- Coordinating installation inspections with ESA with reference to the contract and construction work package numbers
Although this project was completed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the team diligently worked through the new challenges, resulting in a smooth commissioning and no stoppages.
The project was completed with no lost time injuries.
