The Mistinikon Lake Control Dam sluice structure is comprised of six sluices and seven piers totaling 43m (140ft) in length.
Each sluice has 6.4m (21ft) height by 4.3m (14ft) width. The control dam has an 87.02m (285.5 ft) spillway as part of its main dam structure. Flashboards lie along the entire length of the upstream crest of the spillway while guardrails are located on the downstream side of the spillway crest. In recent years, the flashboards have deteriorated extensively and are now at the end of the usable service life. The spillway guardrails do not meet current Standards and present a potential health and safety risk for OPG employees.
TESC was engaged by OPG to provide general contracting services at the Mistinikon Lake Control Dam for the supply and installation of spillway guardrails and spillway flashboards. TESC performed the procurement, supply, delivery, and removals/installation of all required materials, equipment, tools methods, labour, work, and supervision. The team was responsible for the design, supply, fabrication, erection, and inspection of the structural steel work, plate work, and wood work, which were completed in accordance with the relevant codes and standards. Fabrication welds and field welds were completed by a CWB certified shop and welders.
The team successfully completed the project on time and on budget, without injuries.
