TESC was awarded the Bell Creek Surface Infrastructure project at Tahoe Resources’ Bell Creek Mine in Timmins, Ontario.
The project involved the supply and install of the surface infrastructure including supply and install hoist building; supply and install of Collar House; supply and install headframe, bin, and dump; retrofit existing administration building; and install production and service hoist. The project scope included all associated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical installations, including install of HVAC systems, the substation and power distribution, equipment and transformer lifts, bus work, power, and control cables. All trade labour was performed by TESC direct hire unionized personnel, which included carpenters, ironworkers, millwrights, pipefitters, and electricians.
The project was required to be delivered on a very aggressive schedule. The latter required engineering design activities and construction activities to be provided concurrently. The engineering and procurement of major equipment was performed by the owner as work was underway, which presented unique challenges to the project execution team.
Scheduling was provided in P6. Monthly cost updates were provided as project engineering, scope change and construction progressed. The project team overcame many of the challenges to complete the major construction and commissioning activities on time. There were no labour grievances.
All work on the project was completed with zero lost time injuries.
